High maintainability becomes a fundamental requirement of most manufacturing products and system maintainability performance represents a key factor in many manufacturing fields. The paper focus on a procedure to obtain maintainability requirements of a complex system and compares the methods to achieve the best fitting. The first part of the paper focuses on maintainability allocation procedures: failure rate-based allocation method, trade-off of failure rate and design featurebased allocation method, fuzzy maintainability allocation based on interval analysis and time characteristic-based...

The most important problem of electric vehicles is the energy storage. Currently the system components are ready for mass production, the cost of energy storage, and energy density is limited by the capacity of these types of vehicles. The present study aimed to implement a battery monitoring system in to an F2000 electric formula car. Based on the real-time monitoring capability, the control system can continuously check the voltage of the battery. Monitoring of battery systems is a critical importance to maintain reliable operation of electric vehicles. In addition of fault diagnosis the...

Nowadays many industrial sectors, as automotive or aeronautic industry, use forming processes in order to produce sheet metal components. The most widely used are the stamping process and deep drawing, based on big and costly dies and presses. A specific application, the Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF), for sheet metal forming will be discussed in this paper. Force estimation on AlMn1Mg1 sheets with 0.22 mm initial thickness is performed by continuous monitoring of servo motor currents. The aim of this research work is to apply a nontraditional force monitoring on Aluminum alloy...

Vehicle industry is facing two megatrends nowadays: alternative drives and autonomous vehicles. Extreme loads have crucial importance inside these trends, too. Unforeseen events happening in real life can be considered as special form of extreme loads, this is the key novelty of the paper together with the presentation that the classical 6 sigma approach applied typically e.g. in production environments can be used to describe this special form of extreme loads. Various examples represent the applicability of this proposed concept like extreme loads at vehicles of heavy weight & low speed...

Semi-active suspension control needs to measure the relative velocity of the wheels respect to the vehicle body to regulate the damping forces. Linear potentiometers are the most used sensors in racing for linearity and simplicity, but they suffer of wear and tear and aging higher than the other sensors involved in the control loop. As a consequence, to save the efficiency and the effectiveness of the suspension control strategy, an Instrument Fault Detection (IFD) system able to detect the faults occurring on such a sensor should be adopted. In this framework, the paper proposes a IFD...

In the age of the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0, more and more embedded systems are connected through open networks, which also concerns measuring instruments under legal control (e.g. smart meters). Therefore, cyber-security for measuring instruments is becoming increasingly important. In this paper, possibilities to design secure measuring software running on general-purpose operating systems are analyzed according to legal requirements set up by European Directives, e.g., the Measuring Instruments Directive (2014/32/EU), which define the mandatory security level. Concrete security...

The amount of Formaldehyde migrated in food simulant from food contact tableware must be measured to verify compliance to the legal limit. “Chromotropic acid” method is frequently used. Expanded uncertainties must be calculated taking into account the contributions of the different steps of the method.

Food contact articles must be compliant to applicable regulations on food safety. In the migration testing different sources of uncertainties can be characterized. In a case study on disposable gloves the contributions to the uncertainties to the final results are analysed.

A catalytic fuel cell has been employed to check ethanol content in several samples of commercial wines, beers and hard liquor drinks. Two other conventional biosensors, based on catalase or alcohol oxidase enzyme, were also used, to the same purpose, on the same samples. Data obtained by three sensor methods have been compared and correlated. Lastly t-test and F-test were applied.
