INTERLABORATORY COMPARISON OF FORCE MEASUREMENT IN THAILAND

This paper presents the force interlaboratory comparison between the National Institute of Metrology Thailand (NIMT), and six participating laboratories in Thailand. The circulated artefacts were tested in both compression and tension of two rated ranges (50 kN and 100 kN). The star formation was used in this comparison project. The artefacts were tested at NIMT before and after sending to each participant, by using a 100 kN deadweight machine as a reference standard.

INFLUENCE OF SPECIFIC PARAMETERS ON A HAND-OPERATED TORQUE STANDARD MACHINE

In a hand-operated torque primary standard machine, many parameters are very peculiar and can really influence the final results of a calibration. The paper presents studies to quantify how those parameters act and be able to influence on the main operations of this type of machine. As a conclusion, it is demonstrated that only an initial characterisation of the system is not enough to guarantee good results but, the day-by-day use of the machine demands for practice and better knowledge of the cited parameters.

DYNAMIC CALIBRATION OF A FATIGUE TESTING MACHINE ON ORTHOPAEDIC IMPLANTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ISO 4965-1

The main purpose of the work was to carry out a dynamic calibration of a fatigue testing machine in accordance with the revised draft of ISO 4965-1. The machine had previously been calibrated dynamically, with the results presented at the IMEKO World Congress in September 2009 – one of the reasons for repeating the calibration was to see if the anomalous results would be repeated and, if so, to investigate the reasons behind them further and use then to improve the analysis of the orthopaedic implant testing results.

INFLUENCE OF AERODYNAMIC EFFECTS IN DEADWEIGHT MACHINES

In the evaluation of uncertainty of the forces generated by deadweight force standard machines, several contribution should be taken into the account. One of them, that normally is considered negligible, is the influence of aerodynamic effects. In the paper the theoretical analysis of this effect and the experimental measurements made on the INRIM deadweight FSM Galdabini 1 MN are presented.

A STUDY ON VOLUMETRIC MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY OF WEIGHT DUE TO ITS MANUFACTURING PROCESS

The OIML R 111-1 requirements on magnetic properties such as the volumetric magnetic susceptibility (χ) and the magnetization of weights used in legal metrology. So far, these requirements cannot met by weights produced locally in Thailand. This research, therefore, aims to study manufacturing processes that may influence the magnetic properties. In order to reduce the magnetic susceptibility of the weights. Preliminary results show that the magnetic properties are stainless steel type dependent. Moreover, controlling process such as cutting, turning with lathe, grinding and heat treatment...

ACTIVITY OF INTERLABORATORY COMPARISON ON WEIGHT MEASUREMENT IN THAILAND

This paper shows the results of an interlaboratory comparison in Thailand for weight conducted three times. At the first starting from October 2001 to December 2001, eleven participating laboratories joined in OIML weight 500 g F1 and brass weight 500 g programs. Next, from October 2003 to February 2004, F1 OIML weights of 100 mg, 10 g, 1 kg and 5 kg were calibrated among sixteen participating laboratories. At last, started from May 2006 to July 2006 with two sets of F1 OIML weights : 100 mg, 2 g, 20 g, 50g and 1 kg, seventeen laboratories participated. The National Institute of Metrology...

ESTABLISHED THE DENSITY STANDARD OF NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF METROLOGY (THAILAND)

The density standard in Thailand was established in 2007 in cooperation with NMIJ (National Metrology Institute of Japan). The main purpose is to serve the calibration demand of density equipment, which is constantly increasing in the industrial field. Hydrometer and solid density are the mainly used in this industrial field. Density hydrometer in the range of 600-2000 kg/m³ with the highest scale division of 0.2 kg/m³ was calibrated by using the hydrostatic weighing method (CUCOW's method) with the relative uncertainty of between 45 and 70 × 10 -6 . The silicon crystal ring is used as a...

PROTOTYPE OF LOAD CELL APPLICATION IN TORQE MEASUREMENT

Torque laboratory of National Institute of Metrology Thailand has designed and developed the prototype of torque transfer wrench and torque wrench calibrator by using load cell as main device in order to provide low cost torque transfer standard. Loading point of load cell was designed to directly connect to torque measurement axle. Moreover, loading point and base of load cell were supported by elastic part acting as flexure bearing. Torque standard machine and commercial torque transfer wrench were used to compare torque measured by the prototypes, torque transfer wrench and torque wrench...

RESEARCH ON AIR DENSITY MEASUREMENT FOR MEASURING WEIGHTS

According to the CIPM-2007 equation, an equipment of air density measurement that for high accuracy measurement of measuring weights is developed. Measurement of temperature, humidity, pressure and CO 2 are integrated on it to measure air density automatically. The experimental results prove that additional measurement of CO 2 can improve accuracy of air density measurement.

THE MEASUREMENT OF LIQUID DENSITY BY COMPARISON BETWEEN AIR PRESSURES IN CMS

We use the U-type height method to measure the liquid density. The system is like a U-type manometer, while the different liquid used in the tubes. One of the tube was set to the air pressure, another one was decreased the pressure below 1 atm. When a lower pressure was pumped into the tube from the top end, the heights of the level of liquid were measured. Then we got the density of the liquid. During the experiment, the laser interferometer and proper floating reflectors were used. We utilized these instruments to measure the levels of the liquid. These results for measuring water and...
