Food safety concerns and measurement issues: In the world of food as a trading commodity, we are moving towards a global but borderless trade situation. Food safety being a prime concern in this scenario, reliable F&N measurements take the centre stage in decision-making. A measurement process characterized by metrological concepts enhances the reliability of analytical results and ensures the sustainability of quality assurance (QA) needs. These steps infuse authority to the F&N analytical results, and enhance user confidence in the ensuing public health decisions. Importantly, QA is also firmly linked to economic benefits at the national levels, and TC23 will strive to demonstrate these features.
