This paper presents a new kind of colour sensor based on the measurement of the three channels of the CIE XYZ colour space, using optical fibres to conduct light from the illuminant to the probe and from the probe to a XYZ photo-sensor. Instead of performing conventional colour space transformation from CIE XYZ to CMY, we used a statistical procedure, avoiding the transformation dependence on illuminant. This paper shows a brief description of the colour measurement process, a prototype implementation and several experimental results.
In order to set integrated procedures involving geotechnical and structural aspects finalized to buildings diagnostics, uncertainty aspects are discussed concerning three-axis accelerometers and inclinometers for a distributed sensor network, allowing us to operate in a selective manner and preferring the most critical situations. Main topics to be considered for the uncertainty evaluation of measurements and of information to be used for building diagnostics are discussed. As a first step of the whole procedure of uncertainty evaluation, particular attention is dedicated to the calibration...
This paper shows an application of multi-layer statement networks to condition monitoring of the sealless magnetic drive pump. In this case, statement networks are computed based on the use of Bayesian probabilities. Moreover, the tool called REx which allows implementing such networks is described. An example of created four-layer network as well as final results of the performed tests shows also.
Typical algorithms used in Form Measurement Machines are sensitive to the position of the measured object with respect to the axis of rotation. In order to get high accuracy the operator should be very precise in positioning the measuring object and that is time–consuming. The paper presents a conception of a new method which gives results more resistive on the position of the object under measurement.
The combination of radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags with different types of sensors offers excellent potential for applications with regard to identification, diagnosis, and monitoring. This should be demonstrated by means of two examples of actual developments carried out by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM). The Identification and diagnosis of concrete components is a major task in the maintenance of critical infrastructure, for instance concrete bridges with heavy traffic volume. A feasibility study investigates the application of RFID sensor systems...
One of the most effective methods of reducing the impact of error due to acquired thermoelectric inhomogeneity of thermocouples' electrodes is discussed in this article. The method consists in stabilizing the profile of the temperature field along electrodes of the main thermocouple (which measures the temperature of the object). There is also discussed the design of device for profile stabilization of the temperature field and methods for control this profile.
This article presents the vibration diagnostics of electrical rotating machines. The introduction describes the nature of the problem, state of the art in the field of vibration diagnostics, our contribution and achieved results. The theory of vibration is described in the second part. This part is divided into subsections called Harmonic oscillator, Forced vibrations, Free vibrations and Application. The third part deals with the measurement of vibration. In this part the answers to the most often asked questions related to the vibration measurement are listed. Facts introduced in this...
Controller area network (CAN) is now used in wide range of distributed applications. The quality of communication in such applications is usually an important factor. This paper describes validation of new developed online diagnostic method which aim is to recognize progressively degrading nodes on the CAN bus. The method uses existing network equipment and requires no additional/specialized network nodes. Standard components for CAN bus faults management like node error cou nters are used instead. Validation of diagnostic model compares results of the simulations with the results achieved...
Both fuzzy logic, as the basis of many inference systems, and Neural Networks, as a powerful computational model for classification and estimation, have been used in many application fields since their birth. These two techniques are somewhat supplementary to each other in a way that what one is lacking of the other can provide. This led to the creation of Neuro-Fuzzy systems which utilize fuzzy logic to construct a complex model by extending the capabilities of Artificial Neural Networks. Generally speaking all type of systems that integrate these two techniques can be called Neuro-Fuzzy...
The aim of this work is to introduce a strategy for finding minimal set of test nodes for diagnostics of complex analog systems with single parametric faults, using SVM classifier as a fault locator. The results of diagnostics of a low-pass filter using taboo search and GA algorithms as node selectors in conjunction with SVM fault classifier are presented.
