Method of Integral Nonlinearity Testing and Correction of Multi-Range ADC by Direct Measurement of Output Voltages of Multi-Resistors Divider

There is developed method of testing points generation for identification and correction of integral nonlinearity of high performance ADC. The developed method is based on averaging all voltages of multi-resistors voltage divider. It is investigated influence of resistors’ error and random error of ADC on residual error of integral nonlinearity correction for method based on multi-resistor divider.

Software for automated quality assessment of digitally processed video

The paper presents a novel software tool, which calculates and analyses a large number of metrics applied by different scientists and organizations in order to assess quality of compressed video. Metrics computed for a wide range of diversified video sequences may be used for mapping of objectively measured features into subjective quality space. Moreover, statistical analysis of various metrics would help to uncover relationships that otherwise are not available. This, in turn, may lead to work out new objective measures of video quality that will emulate subjective rating more aptly than...

Fault Diagnosis in Intelligent Greenhouse Control with Decomposed Neural Models

The novel approach to the intelligent greenhouse control is based on predictive thermal models and actuator action plans to increase control performance. As operating the actuators essentially changes the thermal dynamics, the overall thermal model is decomposed into sub-models based on the state of the actuators. For the intelligent control it is essential to know the actuator configuration to select the most appropriate sub-model, but unfortunately information available about actuator states is not reliable enough to be directly applicable. This paper proposes a method to detect the...

Remote Field Eddy Current NDT in Tubes Using Anisotropic Magneto-Resistors

This paper presents a measuring system capable of detecting longitudinal and circumferential defects using remote field eddy current in stainless steel tubes with an AMR sensor. An excitation coil is required with a time varying current to produce a magnetic field that penetrates the material on test. The experimental results from both defects are compared with other results for the same material without any defect. The obtained results represent the AMR output magnetic field amplitude and the phase difference between the magnetic field produced by the excitation coil and the magnetic field...

Thickness measurements of corroded district heating pipelines with utilization of Structured Light Technique

In this paper we present application of the Structured Light Illumination method for measurements of thickness of corroded district heating pipelines. The presented methodology allowed determination of the depth of pitting corrosion centres on both inner and outer sides and in each point of the pipe. Obtained data was consequently utilized for statistical analysis of corrosion growth process. The conclusions about the pitting corrosion process, as well as possible development of the presented methodology are discussed in conclusions.

Probe Optimization for Velocity Induced Eddy Current Testing in Aluminium

The railroad network requires constant inspection of rail integrity. Early defect detection is of utmost importance to maintain safety and reduce costs. This work proposes a new non-destructive probe configuration to be used in an inspection method based in eddy currents, which optimizes the detection of defects in a conductive material moving relative to the probe. This approach uses velocity induced eddy currents where the motion of a permanent magnetic field induces currents on the surface of the metal, and it is not restricted by the inspection speed limitations of more traditional...

A novel method for a stylus profilometer gauge calibration with a use of gage blocks and sine bar

Stylus profilometer gauge calibration, which often involves complicated procedures and demands expensive calibration standards, is substantial for ensuring both repeatability and reliability of surface roughness measurement results. However, in spite of numerous calibration methods being proposed, not only has the problem remained unsolved, but it even arose as incredibly wide range stylus profilometers came into the market recently. In the paper, a novel method is proposed in order to simplify the calibration process and interpretation of its results without decline in accuracy. The main...

Assumptions of construction of linear calibration bench for geodetic distance measurement equipment

Geodetic measurement instrumentation plays an important role in both linear and angular measurements used in land surveying, legal metrology and recently - machine building. Calibration of such equipment plays the essential role in ensuring the measurement accuracy. Most recent developments on this topic are observed in the field of non-contact distance measurement devices such as laser trackers as well as their calibration. This paper presents the assumptions for automated calibration of non-contact distance measurement instrumentation as well as preliminary design of linear test bench...

Measurements of geometry of a boiler drum by Time-of-Flight laser scanning.

In the paper the application of ToF laser scanner in measurements of geometrical parameters of a boiler drum in power plant is presented. The point clouds acquired by the scanner have been subjected to a set of post-processing operations that provided the most important geometrical parameters of the drum. The obtained data can be used for optimization of the process of mounting a mechanical steam-water separation during renovation works. Currently used separations are tightly placed in boiler drum, so the welding process is not required anymore. This approach saves the time of renovation...

Error propagation and signal post-processing in rocket-based experiments

This paper describes the error treatment of REXUS rocket-borne measurements of ion density in the middle atmosphere, using so called Gerdien condenser. The main challenge is that measurements in the range of 25-85 km can be carried out only with a sounding rockets or balloons. Therefore not only the measurement time is limited but a lot of noise distorts the data. Another problem is that the measurement model cannot be validated accurately due to the hard accessibility, so apart from a few exceptions we had to rely on probabilistic estimates. Uncertainties and the influencing effects...
