Modelling System to Estimate Spatial and Temporal Variations in Urban Air Pollutants

This work proposes the development of a suitable air pollution model to estimate the temporal and spatial variations in concentration values of air pollutants measured in monitoring network located in urban area. The use of the proposed modelling technique in data environmental analysis allows characterising the pollutants behaviour, to validate measured data and to predict the values of contaminant substance emissions; so it results a very useful analysis tool especially when there are numerous missing or erroneous data to be validated suitably. The developed model has been tested against...

Impedance Spectrometer for in situ Dike Monitoring

Promising laboratory results of the electrical impedance spectroscopy application in observing of internal processes in the dike body, during its loading by rush water, led the authors to the decision to use this method in real conditions at real dike constructions. For these purposes, the new instrumentation capable of the operation in open landscape should be built. Design aspects and signal processing of electronic circuitry used in the instrument is the main topic of this contribution.

A Nanocoloumbmeter for Triboelectric Charge Testing of Garments

It is shown a nanocoulombmeter (NC) of Faraday Cup (FC) type used for electrostatic charge ( x q ) measurement on cloth (gown, waistcoat, etc) of the working personal in the microelectronic industry. Unlike existing equipments of this type, the NC proposed by the authors has the advantage that measurement of x q may be done without contact with active electrode of FC, which allows not to use the elimination of connection cable (disturbing and expensive component) between FC and displaying device of the measuring instrument for x q.

The Measurement of Electromagnetic Fields in Hospital Electrotherapy Rooms

This paper presents the results of electromagnetic field measurements in some electrotherapy rooms situated in hospitals. We measured both the background fields in this special hospital rooms, and the field near the therapy units in the 40 Hz ÷ 500 MHz frequency range. The authors considered many electrotherapy units situated in different hospitals with a view to making comparisons between some rooms and some apparatus of the same type.

An Innovative Algorithmic Approach for Urban Solid Waste Collection

In the present paper, a new framework for urban solid waste collection and transfer is proposed. It consists of a geo-referenced Spatial Database, integrated in a Geographic Information System (GIS) and includes all the parameters required for solid waste management. These parameters involve point sources (loading spots) of waste collection, road network, and related traffic data. Moreover, dynamic data for population density, commercial traffic, time schedule of labour workers, transportation facilities and their technical characteristics are considered. In addition, an innovative...

LAN-Based Measurement Systems

Computer network−based solutions represent an important trend in the evolution of measurement systems. The network-based measurement systems use principally LANs and the Internet. Three types of LAN based measurement systems are described in the paper. We investigated a simple measurement system equipped with both GPIB and LAN interface. We measured command execution times in both systems. We compared some technical parameters of the GPIB interface system and LAN interface system.

Quality Assessment of a Square Wave as a Function of Levels Accuracy

In this paper the influence of levels inaccuracy on the quality of a square wave is evaluated. This is done by means of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the square wave. An algorithm for estimating the SNR of a square wave is proposed. Simulations carried out confirm that the proposed algorithm leads to very accurate results. Some experimental results obtained based upon the proposed algorithm are also presented.

Visual Demonstration of Tidal Movement with Clear Cycles by Time Frequency Analysis

The present study deals with tidal movement in a Japanese coastal area where the half day and one day tidal periods are generally observed. We aim to make the dynamics of this tidal movement much clearer from a point of view of time frequency analysis using a short time Fourier transform(STFT) and a wavelet transform(WT) in addition to a conventional fast Fourier transform(FFT). These three approaches are complementary each other and available for the comprehensive understandings of complicated, oceanic phenomena. The STFT analysis reveals that the four tidal periods are observed only when...

The Method of Measuring the Energy Pass-Band of a Communication Receiver

The paper presents the method to measure the energy pass-band Δf of a communication receiver on the basis of the spectrum density characteristic of its own noises on the receiver output. Moreover, it gives a numeric estimator of this band Δf and introduces the dependences for combined standard uncertainty in measuring the energy pass-band of this receiver.
