Precision farming is based on monitoring environmental conditions and soil parameter to improve productivity, to optimize soil conservation, to save water and to limit plant diseases. Wireless sensor networks are an optimal solution to implement this monitoring process, covering large area and ensuring fault tolerance. Currently, there are no international standards that deal with environmental testing of Wireless Sensor Networks; therefore a customized test plan was developed basing on a step stress test from 20 °C to 80 °C, with 5 °C steps. The objective of the analysis was to investigate...

The aim of this study was to implement a wireless instrumented sphere to study the critical points in a citrus packing line by real-time measuring the impacts experienced by fruits. The noncommercial device was based on a MEMS (microelectro-mechanical system) sensor node with a sensing range from ± 1 g to ± 400 g (g = 9.8 m s -2 ), a ferroelectric RAM (FRAM) memory, a radio frequency (RF) transmitter, a microcontroller, and a 75 mAh lithium battery. The sensor node was placed inside an appropriate case with a total weight of 100 g to represent a Tardivo di Ciaculli mandarin. An FR receiver...

The production of olive oil in Sicily, in recent decades, has implemented the use of technologies that have as their main objective the sustainable safeguarding of food quality. Food quality both from the point of view of the transformation process, and from the point of view of product conservation, from olive oil is not a simple condiment but involves important nutritional attentions with health implications. The preservation of bottled olive oil is fundamental in order to improve the life cycle of the product after its transformation, in shelf life. The parameters observed during the...

An impedimetric label – free immunosensor on disposable screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) for Aflatoxin B1 detection has been developed in this work. SPCE surface was modified with gold nanoparticles and the monoclonal anti-AFB1 was immobilized on the working electrode through a cysteamine layer. After each coating step, the modified surface was characterized by Cyclic Voltammetry and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. The charge transfer resistance (Rct) was chosen as the best parameter that describes the reproducible change in electrical properties of the electrode surface at...

We investigate the role of the optical crosstalk in the conditional measurements performed on quantum states of light. In particular, we analyze how the statistics of the conditional states are affected by cross-talk by retrieving their first and second moments and we test the sub-Poissonianity of the state by evaluating the Fano factor.

Weak measurements are a relevant tool for quantum information because they allow tuning the disturbance on the observed state and the amount of information extracted from it. They can be used to harness repeatedly a quantum resource from the same state, thus boosting the performance of many protocols. We verified experimentally that sequences of weak measurements can generate correlations strong enough to violate the CHSH inequality multiple times, and yet can leave the state entangled enough for the next CHSH test. This means that entanglement can be certified and utilized more times, which...

We address the problem of estimating the three-dimensional positions of NS weak incoherent point-like emitters in an arbitrary spatial configuration. We show that a structured measurement strategy in which a passive linear interferometer feeds into an array of photo-detectors is always optimal for this estimation problem, in the sense that it saturates the quantum Cramér-Rao bound. This work provides insights into the phenomenon of super-resolution through incoherent imaging that has attracted much attention recently. Our results may find applications over a broad spectrum of frequencies,...

The quantum Hall effect is the basis for the realisation of the resistance and impedance units in the revised International System of units of 2019. This paper describes a cryogenic probe that allows to set graphene Hall devices in quantisation conditions in a helium bath (4.2 K) and magnetic fields up to 6 T, to perform precision measurements in the ac regime with impedance bridges. The probe has a full coaxial wiring, isolated from the probe structure, and holds the device in a TO-8 socket. First characterisation experiments are reported on a GaAs device which shows quantisation at 5.5 T.

This paper presents a strategy for traceability establishment in a electrical calibration laboratory using a precison 8 ½ digit digital multimeter as reference standard. The digital multimeter is calibrated by the National Metrology Laboratory or by an accredited laboratory, and some strategies to define the calibration plan considering the characteristics of the instrument, the scope of the calibration laboratory and the cost of the calibration are presented and discussed. The goal of the calibration plan is to allow the reference multimeter to be used in every measurement function and...

Touchless Calibration (TCal) is introduced at XXII IMEKO Congress in Belfast (UK, 2018) as a future development in calibration metrology, and to be implemented in calibration laboratories which are EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited, with a need to be risk assessed. The chosen method for risk assessment originally applied in this contribution is FMEA, which is widely accepted in industries such as aviation and automotive. In this paper, the overall process of risk determination and FMEA analysis for metrology of electric quantities and its results are presented and discussed.
