GREENHOUSE GASES GLOBAL MONITORING SYSTEMS: ECOLOGICAL AND METROLOGICAL ASPECTS

Ecological and metrological aspects of greenhouse gases global monitoring systems are considered. The possibilities and features of the calibration of measuring equipment for the global monitoring systems are selected. The analysis results of international comparisons of national standards and calibration capabilities of national metrology institutes for greenhouse gases are reduced.

GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT OF METROLOGY: CASE STUDY OF VACUUM

The objective of this paper is to contribute to the discussion concerning the economic and social needs of advanced metrology and the economic preconditions for it that recently appeared in the literature. According to the authors, such discussion needs a broader, global scope at one hand and simultaneously a focus on the specifics of the individual metrology branches at the other hand. The results of the study of the common metrology are not comparable to those of the study of one specific field (vacuum in this case).

GPS POSITIONING AND GROUNG-TRUTH REFERENCE POINTS GENERATION

The global positioning system (GPS) is a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) uses a constellation of between 24 and 32 Medium Earth Orbit satellites that transmit precise microwave signals, which enable GPS receivers to determine their current location, the time, and their velocity. Initially, the GPS was developed for military applications, but very quickly became the most used technology in positioning even for end-user applications run by individuals with no technical skills. GPS reading are used also as reference points for many positioning techniques such as the techniques that...

DEVELOPMENT OF METROLOGICAL INFRASTRUCTURE IN R. MACEDONIA

The paper deals with the development of the metrological infrastructure in R. Macedonia. A critical review of the present situation and specific factors of a small transition state are presented. Starting by the analysis of the needs, resources and the strategic goals of the country as well as the influence of the region and Europe, directions for further development of the metrological system in R. Macedonia are proposed. This strategic directions should be followed in the process of planning of the system in the next mid-term plan period.

PREPARATION OF THE NATIONAL MAGNETIC FIELD STANDARD IN CROATIA

The rationale for, and the way of preparation of the croatian national standard for low frequency magnetic field are presented. The technical characteristics of the system for the reference magnetic field generation are described. The calculation of the reference field nonuniformity and the expression of the reference field generation uncertainty are presented, and the experience with the preliminary use of the system for the magnetic field-meters calibration is described.

THE ROLE OF METROLOGY IN THE FIELD OF MEDICAL DEVICES

Medical measurements are present in the everyday life of people and are fundamental processes in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Therefore, a growing interest lies in the role of metrological decisions and conformity assessment, namely where measurements are in support of health. This paper focuses on the use of medical devices looking to enhance its metrological traceability, highlighting the specific role of metrology in the field of health care and the impact of legal control in the framework of the medical devices regulation with a measuring function. It is proposed a new...

ADVANCED METROLOGY FOR NEW GENERATION NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

This EMRP (European Metrology Research Programme) project is looking at solving metrological problems related to a new generation of nuclear power plants. The proposed Generation IV power plants are designed to run safely, make efficient use of natural resources, minimize the waste and maintain proliferation resistance. In order to reach these goals, the reactor operation involves higher temperatures, high-energy neutron fluence, different types of fuel where the minor actinides are also used as fuel etc. In this multidisciplinary project, which has 12 partners in 10 countries, the work is...
