The currently established documentary standards for primary accelerometer calibration provide a characterisation of the device under test which is not well suited for the application to transient excitations. The model based parameter identification (MBPI) introduced over the last years may provide better means of characterisation for such types of applications. The method was recently validated with extensive measurement series in a joint research project between PTB and the company "SPEKTRA Schwingungstechnik und Akustik GmbH Dresden" and is now considered by the authors to be ready for...

This paper highlights the capabilities and significance of a new multi-scalable hardware platform developed at image processing research group of the Ilmenau University of Technology. The main objective is a combination of theory and practice in the education of image processing. The use of image processing for measurement tasks becomes more frequently. The aspect like a camera works is taught, however frequently it cannot be practically experienced by the students. Due to the increasing miniaturization purchased cameras are not suitable for this object. The hardware with the corresponding...

Most cost-effective colour cameras have single image sensors with a fixed repeating pattern of colour filters with transmission spectra analogous to the human eye. To reconstruct a full colour image a process often referred to as "demosaicing" is necessary. Almost every past method for demosaicing had the intention to create the most pleasant image for the human observer. For dimensional measurement the priority is to create images without geometric errors, while the aesthetics of an image should only be the second priority. From a metrological point of view, the most important issue with...

With the demand in shorter process cycles in the production, the requirements for light pulses increase. This applies in particular to build stable and high intensity pulses with good reproducibility. With the help of the freezing the picture, the moving object can be almost independent of disturbances recorded. The aim of the project was a digitally controlled lighting control with regard to design specific criteria. On the market available flash and lighting controls were investigate the suitability of a particular application. Given the low fitness, theoretical and practical methods were...

This paper presents summary of influencing quantities in the procedure of measurement groove depth d by use of Epival-Interphako interferometric microscope. The expression of mathematical model describing the dependence of measured depth of groove d in relationship with all of the influencing components has been presented. Influencing quantities have been analyzed, and the magnitudes of contribution of those quantities that are considered to have the largest influence on uncertainty of the result have been calculated. This analysis has been done based on guidelines for calculation of...

This paper describes the uncertainty estimation of the size-of-source effect (SSE) measurement for the standard radiation thermometers in the indirect method using an integrating sphere with a black spot as the source. We checked the agreement between two processes of changing the black spot size and changing the aperture size. The SSE contributions of each uncertainty factors were analyzed.

A new cutting device driven by an enlargement mechanism with a PZT drive has been developed to realize positioning the cutting tool from nm to mm. In this study, the mechanical principal of a newly developed enlargement mechanism consisting of fluid chamber, a PZT device, and cutting tool stage is reported. The basic performances of the developed mechanism are also evaluated. This developed device demonstrates that the magnitude of enlargement reaches 4 times of stroke than the original one of the PZT. The dynamic characteristics show DC to 50 Hz which is enough frequency response to realize...

In this work two flex sensor belts were developed to count the foetal movements in the last four weeks of pregnancy. While one is a standalone solution the other is a wireless flex sensor belt network one. A description of the type of sensors is followed by the discussion of the different types of acquisition and data treatment methodologies. The application to display the deformation angles is presented as well. The wireless sensor network solution is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, and the hierarchical wireless network solutions include a Wi-Fi layer. Preliminary results highlight the...

In this paper we present a novel calibration method for an electromyogram (EMG) based human-machine interface which estimates force. EMG based interfaces need a calibration process in which musculoskeletal model parameters are determined for each individual user. Most conventional calibration methods which relate EMG signals to force magnitude require not only EMG measurement devices but also force sensors. Our goal here is to develop a calibration method that requires only EMG measurement devices. In our method, users are asked to apply stepwise force indicated by visual or auditory...

The establishment of the absolute spectral responsivity scale traceable to the cryogenic radiometer depends on well-characterized optical detectors as radiometric scale transfer standards. The photodiodes used for the construction of such transfer standards need to be characterized in terms of spatial uniformity, spectral responsivity, shunt resistance and linearity. The spatial uniformity of a batch of Hamamatsu S1337-11 photodiodes was performed with a monochromatic beam in the spectral responsivity measurement facility with a X-Y translation stage. The spectral responsivity of such...
