SIMULATION OF LED LIGHT INTENSITY ATTENUATIONS IN THE BUBBLE CURTAIN ENCLOSURE

To measure the light intensity profiles of LEDs light sources in different media (air, water, and air bubble curtains) to simulate the cultivate environments of hydrogen production, three colors of LEDs lights, red (620.084nm), white (464.979nm), and blue (458.317nm), respectively, are used to simulate light intensity in the space of a rectangular glass enclosure where photosynthetic bacteria is supposed to be cultured inside. The illuminations inside the enclosure are measured by an optical fiber which is connected to the AvaSpec-2048 spectrometer. Photon fluxes are measured by LI-COR-190SA...

IMPACTS AND BENEFITS OF CENTRALIZED MEASUREMENT SYSTEM. CASE STUDY OF A BRAZILIAN ELECTRICITY UTILITY

This article discusses the conceptual basis and the criteria for the installation of a centralized measurement system in the Baixada Fluminense, sub area of concession of the electricity utility of Rio de Janeiro (Light Energia). The study estimates the energy consumption and the average revenue that results from the implementation of the proposed facility to replace the traditional measurement system in place. The sub area of concession selected was defined based on the following two characteristics: area associated with high rate of electricity losses and vulnerability of the power grid...

DEGRADATION TESTS AND CHARACTERIZATION PROCEDURES OF PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULES EXPOSED TO OUTDOOR CONDITIONS

This paper deals with the definition of test procedures specifically conceived to highlight the degradation of PhotoVoltaic (PV) modules and identify the mechanisms that are mainly responsible for this degradation. Several environmental and mechanical test cycles are applied to each set of PV modules under test and suitable characterization procedures are performed at the end of each test cycle, thus providing information related to the degradation rate. The applied stimuli are designed according to the measurements available for outdoor exposed PV plants and the laboratory results will be...

A MULTI-UTILITY SMART METERING ARCHITECTURE TO IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Smart meters are essential tools to increase energy efficiency of buildings and grid. However, to get a real benefit from them, an effective integration between the different energy domestic metering devices and display, as well as a suitable post-processing of such a big amount of measurement data is crucial. In this paper the authors present a new integrated smart metering system for home applications. This system is able to acquire data consumption of electricity, gas, heat meters and to convey it on a single smart platform able to process and give back to the user useful information...

COMPARISION OF METHODS FOR NOISE REDUCTION OF GAMMA ENERGY SPECTRA

The article presents a comparison of three methods of noise reduction in the gamma spectrum evaluation. The distortions’ elimination in this way can lead to increasing accuracy of elements content and identification of radionuclides. The proposed methods were applied for data obtained from the scintillation spectrometer for standards and samples of ash from coal power plants. For presented methods, the measurement system calibration and determination of the content of radioactive elements are described.

REMOTE MANAGEMENT SCHEME FOR LANDSLIDE MONITORING SYSTEM APPLYING WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK

In natural disaster mitigation, many methods and systems are being developed to reduce the effects cause by the phenomena to the lowest possible level. We introduce a landslide monitoring system based on wireless sensor network with strong processing nodes. For this system, a management scheme is necessary for operators to perceive the status of the system. The scheme being constructed has a potential to apply to similar systems if they possess same characteristics with this system.

ONSITE MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTIC EVALUATION OF RIVER FLOW

This paper shows the dynamic characteristic evaluation system to monitor muddy river flow by video image. The dynamic character is evaluated by the flow speed and direction in each small block distinguished evenly on a video frame. By evaluating dynamic character of river surface, water behavior and dangerous area will be distinguished. Aim of this study is to discover the dangerous area, to presume disasters and to inform local or national government and alarm people.

LABORATORY MEASUREMENT OF ENERGY DISSIPATION OF THE SEISMIC SOLITON WAVE AT FRACTURE

The simple laboratory model of dissipative fault was built. Two granite cubes were pressed together using a custom made device. When one of the blocks was knocked, the resulting vibration of the other was monitored in the form of local temperature change. The other experiment included the measurement of the friction coefficient for the rock with a smooth as well as a rough surface. In this way we tried to assess energy dissipation of solitary seismic wave crossing the fault.

WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK FOR RIVER WATER QUALITY MONITORING

This paper presents wireless sensor network for water quality monitoring, which was developed within the Hungarian – Slovak cross border project supported by EU. The nodes of wireless network are realised as buoys fixed in the river stream and carrying sensors measuring 8 basic water quality parameters and wireless communication system for data transfer to the network control server across wireless gateway. This server controls and reconfigures the measuring nodes, pre-processes and formats data, and sends them to the data processing server. The data processing server store the data to the...

EVALUATION OF MONITORING SYSTEM NETWORK PERFORMANCE

Nowadays the measurements take place an important role in our life. In order to prevent some unpleasant situations, we try day by day to assure environmental conditions that protect us against some accidents due to explosion or high level of toxicity that can occur, in working environment and confined spaces. The article presents the statistical characteristics of a monitoring system consisting of 17 calibration stations connected to a server in a secured network and a number of 373 gas analysers. The measurement data, downloaded from each analyser are stored, analysed, processed, reported...
