The primary reason for measuring methane is to improve the safety of the mines. In recent years, there have been many fatalities in underground coal mine explosions in which methane was a contributing factor. The rapid detection of methane is very important from the point of view of safety of mine workers. This paper presents a concept of fast methane detection by prediction its concentration in dynamic states. Two methods of dynamic corrections of methane concentration - single-channel and double-channels were described.

The quality of Wireless Sensor Node Network System (WSNNS) in landslide surveillance is mostly depending on network topology since it covers a wide range of area and has limitation in data transmission. Through real experiment and data analysis, we evaluate network quality in WSNNS by concerning three aspects: robustness of network, data latency and loads balance in network.

Evaluating usability of user interfaces from biosignals has attracted attentions. This study aims to evaluate usability of non-user-friendly interfaces through electroencephalography (EEG) signals that may reflect users’ frustration with the interfaces. Using a cursor control task with irregularly moving cursors to elicit frustration, our results showed accuracy of 86.3% in classifying brain activities during using irregularly and normally moving cursor.

This article obtains by system for using in navigation systems for orientation of blind men in unknown terrain. This system named as “Tactile Navigation System” is a compensation instrument for blind persons. It is composed from three basic elements: camera, control unit and tactile activator. The tactile navigation system converts the image from the camera to the tactile information and transfers this information to the blind person. The blind person can recognize by vibration of the tactile activator placed on the antebrachium, if he comes on an impediment or if he can continue free go. He...

Walking is a fundamental activity for us in our life. Also, it is a suitable action to estimate the health condition. Most people unconsciously walk in the condition of an unbalance body which might cause a physical trouble to the body. This paper describes the autonomous wearable Body Area Network (BAN) system to care physical condition. By data fusion of various dynamic parameters collected from wearable sensing nodes, system gives suitable advices in terms of feedback information in order to care user’s body behaviors.

It is important to keep our health condition well for independent activities in dairy life. The good health contributes to realize high Quality of Life (QOL). This paper describes the system construction, operation and application of the telemetric wearable sensing network system to monitor vital parameters far from a user. The wearable sensing network is constructed as a Body Area Network (BAN) which take a role of local data management and advising to user. Host System far from the BAN take a role of total monitoring of human and System condition.

This article introduced a new conceptual framework of student learning that takes into account recent developments from neuroscience, in order to describe the complex interactions between the learners’ environment and the subconscious and conscious information processing required, enabling them to learn more effectively. The validity of a tool for assessing learners’ approach for consciously processing information: Visually, Auditory, Read/Write or Kinaesthetic (VARK) was tested using exploratory factor analysis and good mapping was found between visual, read/write and auditory items. The...

Biomechanical analysis of human movement is generally based on various kinds of dynamic measurement, including the measurement of the positions, in a three dimensional space, of reference points fixed on the subject’s body and the orientation of body segments. Signal enhancement by proper filtering is often recommended. Often velocity and acceleration signal must be obtained from position-measurement records, which demands special care in numerical processing. Therefore we propose a comparative study of various filtering methods, based both on simulated and experimental signals, in order to...

The paper presents application of the Decision Tree (DT) to the fall detection of elderly people monitored by the infrared depth sensors. The decision making system works on data acquired by the sensor, recording movement of the person and raising the alarm if his/her behaviour suggests that the accident occurred. From the measurement data so-called morphological features are extracted, further processed by the DT. Various configurations of the classifier have been verified, proving its usefulness to solve the presented task, but also revealing disadvantages.

The aim of this study was to verify whether five-year-old children (attending the last year of kindergarten) could have different enhancements to their abilities to accomplish two homologous trainings on numerical intelligence: pencil-and-paper format and computerized format. We have evaluated the effects of two types of training, observing that both training are useful in relation to numerical abilities.
