The Monte Carlo Method requires computational resources to generate random numbers. LNE-MCM software was developed as user-friendly interface; it is validated and dedicated to the evaluation of measurement uncertainty using Monte Carlo simulations. Moreover, additional features are implemented: the case of multivariate models, sensitivity analysis and a goodness of fit test. LNE-MCM is scheduled to be freely available on LNE’s website in 2015.
In electrical quantities metrology numerous examples of stochastic processes exist and a need for optimal solutions is posed. Here stochastic genetic algorithm optimization is used for solving two typical metrological problems: errors minimization in process of instrument’s design and predicting metrological reference standards time-drift. The first case is optimal metrological design of a combined instrument transformer and the second case is analysis of resistance standard time-drift.
The use of Prony’s method to detect changes in the technical condition of a pressure transducer is described. The technique is based on spectral analysis of transducer output signal and estimating its frequency response by Prony’s method. Ways to increase the accuracy of Prony’s method have been proposed and algorithm for transducer output signal processing based on modified Prony’s method is presented.
Due to their excellent mechanical properties and light weight, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) has a huge potential as a way to reduce vehicle and airplane weight and is therefore a subject of interest for aerospace and automotive industries. To mass-produce FRP products, certain textile structures are commonly used as semifinished products, such as multiaxial non-crimp fabrics (NCF). Currently, there is no automated monitoring system capable of ensuring quality in NCF production. The purpose of this study is to develop tools and concepts that could lead to fully-automated quality control of...
Proficiency testing provides objective evidence of laboratories testing competence. Laboratories quality control procedures can monitor the validity of tests and calibrations undertaken by measuring continuing performance in multiple rounds of a proficiency testing program. Such monitoring will allow laboratories to identify problems, check for testing bias and other trends and review the effectiveness of corrective actions where problems were highlighted by a proficiency test.
Measurement results provided by laboratories involved in interlaboratory comparisons are processed in order to obtain the reference value of the quantity under measurement and its uncertainty. Measurement results are also compared with the reference value and its uncertainty in order to assess participants performance. Standards procedures are available in order to statistically process the measured values resulting from interlaboratory comparisons, such as those described in [1]. Unfortunately these procedures do not take into account the measurement uncertainty that each participant is...
A new approach to evaluation of binary test results when checking a one-dimensional ability is proposed. We consider the case where a population of objects is tested by a set of test items having different, but unknown beforehand levels of difficulty, and we need to evaluate both the intrinsic abilities of these objects and the level of difficulty of the test items. We assume that the same scale invariant item response model applies to all members of the tested population of objects under study.
Measurement of energy consumption of machine tool is a fundamental step for improving the energy efficiency during production. Machine tool is a very complex product which need specific measuring devices for both types of energy usage during machining – electric and pneumatic. These devices, used in shop floor, should be robust and reliable. Several developed devices are presented to make a proper measurement of energy including PLC monitoring as a possible sensorless diagnostic.
The paper builds on the issues, contained in the another article submitted to the XXI IMEKO World Congress concerning the data synchronization in process of measurement and registration of parameters characterizing the electrical power network. The paper discusses the formats of data in individual operations performed in instrument designed for analyzing and estimation of measured quantities.
In 2009, INRIM opened a research activity to plan the design and the realization of an innovative Thermal Energy Standard. The paper presents the main features of the new national standard and the innovative measurement approach adopted in order to faithfully simulate the real operating conditions of direct heat meters. An overview of the measurement procedure and the first experimental results for assessing the metrological performances of the thermal energy standard are given.
