This paper considers applying the matching pursuit algorithm with chirplet dictionary for an adaptive time-frequency analysis of the non-stationary magnetic fields. The way of the assessment of the exposure level to low-frequency magnetic field emissions, in reference to admissible levels, proposed by International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, is presented. The selected results of the analysis of the low-frequency magnetic field are presented.

In the paper an attempt was made to evaluate the water content in the diesel fuel using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to verify experimentally that it can be used as an in situ, fast and relatively cheap alternative compared with laboratory method widely used nowadays. Experimental results show that with some limitations EIS method can be used to estimate water content in diesel fuel.

This paper describes an amperometric sensor module for gas concentration measurement. A module can be used for many types of electrochemical gas sensors without major hardware changes. Device is based on AVR ATmega8 microcontroller. As signal processing circuit a specialized integrated circuit LMP9l000 configurable via I2C interface is used. The concept of a measuring system composed of several modules dedicated for a gas sensors array is presented as well. System controls modules, collects and analyses their responses. It was designed with an emphasis on universality and modularity. The...

Monitoring VOC for climate change and for indoor and outdoor air quality at trace level concentrations need reference standard materials at high metrological performance. To improve this performance, the description of phenomena involved in mixtures generation by rigorous models is mandatory. A model to describe diffusion cells of a primary generator was developed and validated with experimental data. A good agreement was found between the uncertainties of measurements and calculations.

The increasing of industrial and civil activities produces changes in the quality of water discharged in land, and in rivers/seas, and surface water. Every activity needs a water treatment plant. The quality of water must be conform to specific technical legislation. In order to control the quality of wastewaters, some efficient techniques are requested especially in presence of solvents and suspended solids. A spectroscopic method is proposed along with a statistical approach for validating data.

We report on the detection by Raman spectrometry of several pollutants dissolved in water such as nitrates, sulfates or chlorides. Unlike current water probes often based on conductivity our Raman probe measures simultaneously the concentration of each species in a few seconds only. We show how chemometrics methods based on statistical analysis like the principal components analysis and the partial least square regression can be applied for the spectra treatment.

The maintenance of secure traffic conditions during winter is ensured by the use of de-icers. The type of de-icers used depends on the surfaces that need to be treated. However, these products can have important impacts provoking corrosion or aging appearance of materials surrounding the surfaces that are treated. In this work, we present a set of tests developped for the evaluation of the de-icer impacts on infrastructure materials, impacts investigated through aging tests.

In this paper, the practical implementation of an innovative time domain reflectometry (TDR)-based system for leak detection in underground water pipes is presented. This system, which had been previously developed and experimented on pilot plants, has now been installed (for the first time) on a large scale, in 10 km of pipes. The present work describes all the practical aspects and technical details (from the design to the functional tests), related to the implementation of the system.

Wireless sensor networks are nowadays used in many industrial and automotive applications for distributed sensing and instrumentation. This paper presents the design of a dependable wireless sensor node for the application in automotive engine test beds. The sensor node is autonomously powered by means of a solar cell harvester module, which allows for the continuous operation of the sensor even in periods of low ambient light conditions. The measurement module features a Pt1000 based low power evaluation circuitry for temperature monitoring and a circuitry to determine the available input...

The paper presents properties of a system for measurements of quantities which determine thermal state of buildings. The system can be used both in investigations of thermal processes in buildings and for monitoring thermal processes to perform an energy consumption audit. Each measuring instrument is supplied by a separated task, which enables simple modification of programs and introduction of new instrument tasks. The diagnostic system is managed from a local computer by using the program written in the LabView environment.
