The paper analyses the change in spectral properties of an acoustical noise when the examined person lies in the scanning area of the open-air magnetic resonance imager (MRI) so that the holder of the lower gradient coils is loaded with his/her weight. Obtained results of spectral analysis will be used for design of a correction filter to suppress the noise in simultaneously recorded speech signal for 3D modelling of the human vocal tract.

The aim of this paper is to provide a roadmap for the standardization of magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) characterization. We have assessed common MNP analysis techniques under various criteria in order to define the methods that can be used as either standard techniques for magnetic particle characterization or those that can be used to obtain a comprehensive picture of a MNP system. This classification is the first step on the way to develop standards for nanoparticle characterization.

In this paper the design and test of a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar to be used as electronic travel aid for visually impaired subjects are presented. The sensor is based on the Infineon BGT24MTR11 integrated circuit, whose output frequency has been controlled by the Analog Devices AD4158 integrated circuit. A transmitting and a receiving serial array of patch antennas have been designed and realized. The designed sensor uncertainty has been experimentally investigated, finding a worst case value close to the theoretical resolution of 0.6 m calculated from the FMCW signal...

The fabrication of a single element transducer made from Lithium Niobate (LiNbO 3 ) operating at 1 MHz to 10 MHz is focused on this paper. The air-backed immersion type LiNbO 3 transducer is developed to be used as the standard transfer ultrasonic transducer to calibrate the ultrasound power-meter, which is measured the total emitted acoustic power radiated from the medical equipment. To clarify the precision of the acoustic power, the primary standard calibration measurement (radiation force balance, RFB) based on IEC 61161 is used to investigate the fabricated transducer. The geometry of...

A comparison of the current regulatory status of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) devices in several regions of the world is presented. Examples of differences between countries in compliance assessment and certification are analyzed. Harmonization of terminology and reporting, as discussed in the literature, is taken into account, while critical issues are pointed out, aiming at the advancement of the metrological reliability of the technique.

The research reported in this paper is related to the ultra-wide-band radar technology that may be employed in care services for the elderly. Two algorithms for preprocessing of measurement data from an impulse radar sensor are compared with respect to the uncertainty of estimation of echo parameters. These are: an algorithm based on curve-fitting in the spectrum domain and a modified CLEAN algorithm. Preliminary results of numerical experiments performed on those algorithms are demonstrated.

Two algorithms for preprocessing of measurement data from an impulse radar sensor, when applied for elderly people monitoring, are compared with respect to the uncertainty of estimation of echo parameters. Preliminary results of numerical experiments performed on those algorithms are demonstrated.

Many women feel the physical burden during mammography as pain. We examined the pain-related pupil dilation response during mammography. The pupil sizes of 24 women were measured during mammography excluding x-ray irradiation. Their mean pupil diameter was 2.9 mm in relaxation phase before mammography, while it was 3.2 mm in a few seconds after breast compression. The difference in pupil diameter between the relaxation and pressure phases was statistically significant.

eNose technologies can be used for disease diagnostics. One technology is based on ionized molecules and their drifting speed in an electric field. Ionized molecules can be measured with ion mobility spectrometry and with electrical mobility measurements. Depending on the size scale of these molecules, different physical effects are relevant. We studied the relevance of size scale dependent physics for disease diagnostics.

In this study surface behaviour of sand blasted and acid etched ultra-fine grained Ti13Zr13Nb specimens were investigated. Surface characters are a crucial factor that effect osseointegration performance of implants. Ti13Nb13Zr specimens were processed by means of hydrostatic extrusion technique. The effect of the grain size and surface modification on the surface roughness and topography were systematically investigated with stylus-profilometer and scanning electron microscope.
