The paper presents application of the gamma-absorption method to a solid particles hydrotransport evaluation in a pipeline. The flow of the mixture was examined by a set of 241 Am sources and NaI(Tl) probes. For analysis of the stochastic signals provided by detectors the cross-correlation function with the Hilbert Transform of delayed signal (CCFHT) have been applied. The experiments showed that the combined uncertainty of the average velocity of solid particles did not exceed 0.01%.
Hydraulic models used to simulate operational conditions in pipelines depend heavily on the availability of pump curves. However, in several situations the pump datasheets are missing or are outdated, not reflecting the current conditions and leading to inaccurate simulations. This manuscript presents a methodology that can be used to estimate the pump curves based on historical data collected from the pipeline operation, improving the accuracy of the simulation models.
This paper presents a method for measuring flow in pipelines based on the vibration caused by the flow of water, eliminating the need for interrupting the flow and opening the pipe for installation of traditional water flowmeters. Experimental measurements are presented and also a metrological validation in a laboratory accredited for calibration of flow meters.
One way to validate the volume measurement of the piston prover cylinder is using gravimetric method called water draw. The purpose of this study is to measure the volume of piston prover cylinder with gravimetric method for validation of its water flow rate measurement value and also to achieve the uncertainty target. The measurement results of piston prover cylinder volume are 92.43 litre and expanded uncertainty of 0.09 litre or 0.09% in relative. The largest contribution comes from the water mass measurement repeatability because of the possibility of evaporation and error measurement in...
A study to identify the effect of changes in vessel cross-sectional area to the mass evaporation rate of micropipette calibration without evaporation trap at nominal value of 20 µl is still being tested. Three different vessels with various diameter values of 5.9 mm, 9.8 mm and 13.7 mm were used to determine their effect to evaporation. The result of the test showed that the smaller diameter of vessel reduced the mass evaporation rate on micropipette calibration.
To answer the need for traceability in micro flow area for medical industry, Flow Laboratory of Metrology LIPI in cooperation with Physics Department of University of Indonesia, developed a compact standard based on piston displacement concept. The standard consists of glass syringe and linear actuator controlled by Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The volume generation uncertainty is 0.6% to 0.7% at 6.5 mL to 13.4 mL. Flow-rate uncertainty is 1.6% to 11.6% at 90.3 mL/hr to 1177.1 mL/hr.
This communication evidences the applicability of the use of sucrose solutions, of whom density and viscosity were obtained via ICUMSA tables by means of refractive index measurements, to deduce calibrations curves for viscosity damping of a density meter in viscosity range from 20 mPa·s to 55 mPa·s, at 20 ºC, with an expanded uncertainty of 0,030 kg·m -3 . An interesting relationship between the difference of density indication without viscosity correction and density indication with viscosity correction was observed for DMA 5 000 density meter, allowing, without knowing the viscosity of...
A piston prover measures the flow rate by determining the time interval that a piston needs to pass a known volume of gas at a defined pressure and a temperature. The evaluation of the calibration and measurement capabilities of the clearance-sealed realization of the piston prover is presented. A systematic analysis of the uncertainty covers the components due to the gas density, dimensional and time measurements, the leakage flow, the density correction factor and the repeatability.
The results of the first comparison of laser distance measuring instruments (EDM) are reported. The test of the stability of the EDMs showed significant changes in the mean results in timescale months or even days. The uncertainty of the results mainly comes from the uncertainty of the reproducibility. For the analysis both the deviations from the KCRV and the En numbers were calculated. For the evaluation of the reference value, the modified weighted mean approach has been chosen. Most results agreed within the claimed uncertainty.
Evaluated results of comparisons of national standards of capacitance unit at 10 pF and 100 pF at 1000 Hz of regional metrology organization COOMET are presented. These results used for confirming calibration and measurement capabilities NMIs and establishing of measurement traceability for concrete working standards and measuring instruments.
