The research is devoted to investigate about the coordination in the time domain of the operations executed by the Measurement Instruments (MIs) connected by Hardware Interface (HI) to the node of the Distributed Measurement System. A new architecture of HI is proposed to trigger the MIs in order to (i) avoid the random effects of concurrency of the software processes running on PC, (ii) reduce the upper bound of the execution time of the procedure running on Real Time Operating System, and (iii) shorten the random time delay to detect the trigger condition, introduced by the polling cycle...

A practical method with high accuracy in generation and application of error values for calibration of current transformer test sets is described. A PC-controlled three-phase power source with a standard wattmeter is used for generating the nominal and error test currents while an electronically compensated current comparator is used to provide summation and subtraction of them, precisely. With this method, any ratio error and phase displacement value could be generated automatically and nominal and test currents could be grounded on the test set safely. Because of its high accurate ratio...

Quantization errors like ADC errors and roundoff errors are similar in the sense that they are difficult to analyze and predict, and therefore need careful tests/measurements. This paper discusses the possibilities of the simulation of single-precision floating-point roundoff errors. It illustrates the examination of the error and discusses it in one of the most common signal processing procedures, the fast Fourier Transform. It shows a case when spurious spectral peaks appear due to roundoff error.

The paper presents a non-destructive method that aims to reconstruct an image through a nanocomposite material based on the attenuation of X-ray. For analyse we used a commercially available Scyscan 1174 desktop X-ray microtomography unit, that allows us to visualize and measure complete threedimensional object structures without sample preparation or chemical fixation.

In this paper we develop an experimental analysis aimed at characterizing the shielding performance of shields operating in electromagnetic rail launchers. The experimental analysis is carried out for various shield configurations and different materials. In particular, cylindrical shell cylinders are adopted. The experiments are performed on a rail launcher prototype supplied by a high pulsed power device. Finally, we make some remarks on the measurement of the shielding effectiveness in such critical environments.

Digital potentiometers offer a low-noise, stable, reliable and simple alternative to digital to analog converters (DACs) and mechanical potentiometers. This paper is about the importance of digital potentiometers and the possibility of implementing them in digital impedance measurements. Here is also shown the possibility of digitizing of an analog bridge fated to impedance measuring. It is possible due to existence of digital potentiometers and their usage in measurement scheme.

The frequency spectrum is a limited shared resource, nowadays interested by an ever growing number of different applications. Generally, the companies providing such services pay to the governments the right of using a limited portion of the spectrum, consequently they would be assured that the licensed radio spectrum resource is not interested by significant external interferences. At the same time, they have to guarantee that their devices make an efficient use of the spectrum and meet the electromagnetic compatibility regulations. In this framework, the competent authorities are called to...

This paper describes an eddy current (EC) based non-destructive testing system used for experimental verification of optimized chirp signal. The time-frequency content of the EC driving signal is synthesized with respect to material properties. We are expecting an improvement in sensitivity of crack and corrosion detection.

The precise selection of the input and sampling frequencies, and selection of the record length are very important for dynamic testing of AD converters and modules by sine wave signal. IEEE Std 1241-2000 and Std 1057-2007 provide standardization in the ADC testing. Selection of optimal input testing signal frequency under these standards is resolved separately for applied deterministic testing methods. To compare results between each test method, it is necessary to use identical test conditions inclusive of identical input testing signal frequency. That is why an algorithm of input testing...

An in-situ procedure for calibrating the equivalent radius and width of the coil transducer in rotating mode measurements for magnetic field quality analysis is proposed. The standard calibration procedure is not suitable when the coil is longer than the magnet under test, because an average value of the radius and of the width along the length as a whole is obtained. This problem increases for small coils used in small-aperture magnets, such as quadrupoles of new-generation linear accelerators. In the paper, the problem of the coil parameter calibration is highlighted and then the proposed...
