PERCEPTION OF PLAGIARISM AND FRAUD IN EDUCATION

Plagiarism and fraud by students have increased considerably in the past decade. Information technology plays an important role here, because it provides techniques that make it possible to copy text, images and other materials almost effortlessly. Educational institutions are aware of this, and try to halt it. The problem of monitoring and dealing with fraud and plagiarism is a matter of perception in two respects: 1. it is often difficult to identify fraudulent student papers because of the large scale and intelligent techniques for cheating, and 2. students who are blamed of plagiarism...

VALIDATION OF METROLOGICAL SOFTWARE

The problems involving the validation of metrological software are explored in this paper. This important module of measuring systems fulfills the mathematical processing of measured data. The concept of validation and their realization is considered based on building a conceptual model of software components under examination. The presented method helps software validation through estimating intervals specified within which the estimates of quantities indirectly measured should lie.

COMPRESSION OF CYCLIC TIME SERIES DATA

This paper describes a method to reduce the space of stored indicator time series data collected from a telecommunications network. The method takes advantage of the cyclic nature of the collected time series and behavioral clusters of the network elements. The method separates the shape of the daily activity cycle of a network element from volume of the traffic and clusters the daily patterns to coherent groups in which each sample can be presented with the amount of traffic in the network element and a prototype pattern. Dynamic thresholds are used to determine the samples that deviate...

ASYNCHRONOUS ANALOG-DISCRETE CONVERTER USING AN ANALOG SIGNAL PROCESSOR STABILIZED IN AN INFLECTION POINT

This brief article presents the architecture and the implementation of a converter of analog signals into discrete signals of three levels, asynchronous, with sample frequency in the gigahertz band. To make possible the implementation of this converter, it was projected and also implemented an analog signals processor that functions stabilized round an inflection point, in substitution to the operational amplifiers used in the first version of the converter and that allowed to work with high gain and slew-rate. This processor is also described in this article.

FF_SIM: A SIMULATION TOOL FOR FERROFLUIDIC TRANSDUCERS

In this paper a simulation tool for ferrofluidic transducers is presented. The aim of the tool developed is twofold: to provide the designer with a useful tool which carries out both the behavioral analysis and the quantitative analysis of ferrofluidic devices and to support educational activity on the subject in advanced academicals courses.

USING LABVIEW FOR COMPUTER MODELLING OF CONVERSION METHODS IN ANALOG TO DIGITAL CONVERTERS

The applications designed in the LabVIEW environment for computer simulation of the operation principle and testing of two types of A/D converters (ADC): single-slope AD converter and dual-slope A/D converter are presented. Front panels contain graphical objects, permitting interactive communication with the user. Animation effects allow illustration of the ADC operation principle. The application permits performance of virtual experiments thanks to the possibility of control of the ADC parameters and the input signals parameters The applications can be used for education and research...

CONSTRAINTS DRIVEN SUBSCRIPTION USING CONFIDENCE INTERVAL MODEL

In the context of intelligent instrument network, i.e. intelligent sensors and actuators, the user or the designer has to manipulate variable network functions. Service model allows the designer to formalize and manipulate information access. Service model also permits to, check, control and react from instrument data and this approach is web-enable. Producer-Consumer pattern facilitates design and intelligent instrument networking. The connection between producer and consumer can be checked (i.e. type of data) and filtered (condition of sending). We propose to extend the producerconsumer...

DESIGNING WIRELESS INTRUMENTATION SYSTEM WITH THE DIAMOND METHOD

Designing wireless instrumentation systems requires to work with two levels: the individual level (the sensors) versus the social level (the whole system). We introduce the DIAMOND method which allows to design open embedded complex systems using a multiagent approach.

NOVEL APPROACH TO THE COMPUTER-AIDED MODELLING OF MEASUREMENT PROCESSES FOR UNCERTAINTY ESTIMATION

The aim of this paper is to present a methodology to the modelling of measurement processes for uncertainty estimation. According to the “Procedure for the Uncertainty Management” (PUMA) described in the supplement of ISO 14253-1 an iterative course of action is derived. In this connection the efficiency of modelling is considered additionally. The trail version of the novel application software “Model Assistant”, developed within the cooperative research project MST-UNCERT, is used for graphical modelling. A practical stepwise procedure for efficiency modelling has been derived and...

DESIGN AND OPTIMISATION OF DEPENDABLE MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS

This paper deals with the use of a structural modelling in order to optimise the cost of a measurement system with dependability constraints. The aim of the proposed method is to determine the sensor placement that tolerates a given number of failures with the lowest cost. A structural model is used. It describes the links between the physical quantities and is employed in order to determine the potential analytical redundancies. With that, the optimisation problem becomes an integer linear programming (ILP) problem whose resolution provides the best reliable and lowest-cost system.
