UNIT OF VOLUME FOR NATURAL GAS AT OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS, PTB AND NMi VSL DISSEMINATE "HARMONIZED REFERENCE VALUES"

Since November 1999, PTB and NMi VSL have established and disseminate Harmonized Reference Values for the Unit of Volume of Natural Gas. These Reference Values for Natural Gas at operational conditions are applied, not only in the test facilities at which they originate but are installed and applied as well in other test-facilities and have a wide application in Custody Transfer Measurements. The paper describes backgrounds and procedures that have been developed and that are currently in use in Germany and The Netherlands. The prerequisites of the harmonization process, the underlying...

DEMONSTRATION OF TELECALIBRATION CAPABILITIES AS A NEW TOOL FOR METROLOGY AT THE GERMAN PRIMARY HIGH PRESSURE NATURAL GAS TEST FACILITY “pigsar”

The paper demonstrates the telecalibration capabilities of pigsar, the national standard for natural gases at high pressure of Germany. The telecalibration tool was developed in order to give PTB an efficient access to the on-going calibrations at pigsar. It can be considered as a new tool for metrology to maintain and supervise the dissemination of the units volume and mass of natural gases under high pressures. Furthermore, telecalibration is a necessary tool and issue to provide for PTB-certificates based on the harmonized reference value for high-press natural gases as agreed between...

UNCERTAINTY ANALYSIS AND LONG-TERM STABILITY INVESTIGATION OF THE GERMAN PRIMARY HIGH-PRESSURE NATURAL GAS TEST FACILITY pigsar

The high-pressure gas flow meter test facility pigsar operated by Ruhrgas AG serves for testing and calibration of turbine-wheel and ultrasonic meters for natural gas in the pressure range between 14 and 50 bar and flow rates ranging from 8 to 6500 m³ / h. Pigsar is the national standard of high-pressure natural gas flow under supervision of the German national metrological institute PTB. It represents and disseminates the unified German-Dutch reference value for the unit of volume for high-pressure natural gas. The uncertainty analysis of the test facility presented here was one of the main...

MODELLING WET-GAS ANNULAR-DISPERSED FLOW THROUGH A VENTURI

A theoretical model for gas-liquid annular-dispersed flow through a Venturi meter is reported. It is based on an earlier model developed for Venturi scrubbers. Changes implemented are based on new research and on the different physics between the two cases. The predictions of the model have been tested using information from recent experiments on Venturi meters employed for measuring wet gas flows with liquid volume fraction up to 10%. The model gives good predictions.

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF RSVP BASED DISTRIBUTED MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS

In this paper the performance of a RSVP-based distributed measurement system prototype is analysed and compared with one ordinary RSVP-less. After some hints on RSVP, the software and hardware architecture of the prototype is described. The methodology for Quality of Service measurement on IP network is used in order to analyse and compare the performance of the prototype realised in the laboratory. Moreover, aspects concerning the distributed measurement system security are examined and the adopted security policy is discussed.

FAISABILITY STUDY OF A SINGLE LOCAL OSCILLATOR DIGITAL RADAR RECEIVER

High speed ADCs are considered more and more by ADC manufacturers. The aim of such components is that they are to be used in applications such as high speed data acquisition devices, digital oscilloscopes, digital RF/IF signal processing, digital RF down conversion... The application we target in this research is the last one, digital RF down conversion, by the use of a high speed ADC (8 bits – 1 GSPS) in a radar receiver. In this article, we present a brief comparison between two kinds of radar receiver architectures : the superheterodyne and the expected one. We also present the method to...

ACTIVE DOSIMETER FOR MEASUREMENT OF THE RADIATION ENVIRONMENT IN A HUMAN PHANTOM ON BOARD THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION

Described is the Liulin-5 active dosimetric telescope designed for measurement of the depth distribution of the space radiation doses in a human phantom on the Russian Segment of the International Space Station (ISS.). Liulin-5 is a part of the international project MATROSHKA-R on ISS. Energy deposition spectra, linear energy transfer spectra, flux and dose rates for charged particles will be measured simultaneously with near real time resolution at 3 different depths of the phantom by means of 3 silicon detectors. The aim of Liulin-5 experiment is long term (4-5 years) investigation of the...

OPTIMIZATION OF AN OPTICAL WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

This paper presents a preliminary study aimed to optimize the signal characteristics of an optical indoor wireless communication system for telemedicine and mobile user applications. Specifically, detected signals associated with experimental geometries based on line-of-sight (LOS)-point-to-point-optical link and line-of-sight (LOS)-point-to-point-parallel to a surface-optical links are shown. In addition, applications of wavelet transform algorithms aimed to reduce the noise components associated with the detected signal are presented.

USING THE INTERPOLATIONS METHOD FOR NOISE SHAPING AD CONVERTERS

Digital post processing of ADC output data requires among others a fast computational algorithms aimed on the enhancement of ENOB restricted by nonlinearities of the ADC. The paper deals with advantages and disadvantages of implementation Bayesian interpolation theorem to reduce large scale errors in output signal in spite of dithering with high peak-peak voltage. Interpolation process based on Bayesan model smoothes the distortion in the output signal caused by the integral nonlinearity in the ADC transfer characteristic. It suppresses also the random errors generated by allegory errors...

SOFTWARE FOR METROLOGICAL CHARACTERISATION OF PC SOUND CARDS

The paper demonstrates virtual instrument software that performs simple and fast testing of any PC sound card with correctly preinstalled Windows driver in waveform recorder applications related to IEEE Std 1057, drafts IEEE Std. 1241 and DYNAD. In addition to the visualisation of recorded signal patterns in time and spectral domain, the software directly determines various basic parameters of input analog channels e.g. effective number of bits, THD, THD+noise, SINAD, etc. The parameter determination is performed both in spectral and time domains to compare the achieved results. A modified 4...
