A detailed uncertainty analysis for NIST’s pulse parameter measurement service is presented that represents the new pulse parameter measurement and extraction processes. Uncertainties for pulse amplitude, transition duration, overshoot, and under(pre)shoot are given. Effects of temperature, temperature variation, impulse response estimate, pulse parameter extraction algorithms, time-base distortion, calibration procedures, and the waveform reconstruction process are included.

The purpose of this paper is to present several filter topologies used for decimation of sigma delta modulated digital signals in order to choose the optimized filter architecture with regards to an efficient implementation. The filter is suited for data conversion and measurement applications. A second order 1-bit sigma delta modulator will be considered as the front-end A/D converter. The subsequent digital filter reduces the sampling rate by a factor of 64 and must guarantee a stop band attenuation of 80 dB.

The effect of measurement uncertainty on estimates and decisions performed under a regime of quality control and improvement, is considered in this paper. Standard statistical quality tools are analyzed such as control charts and instrument calibration procedures. Their performance is characterized under the assumption of both Gaussian and uniformly distributed measurement uncertainty. Exact and approximate expressions are derived that allow the design of suitable procedures including the contribution of measurement uncertainty.

The paper presents two signal processing algorithms for continuous measurement of gas concentration using low cost metal oxide semiconductor sensors. A major limitation of these sensors in quantitative analysis of gases is their non-linearity. A good solution of this problem is to combine these sensors with appropriate signal processing techniques. The first algorithm that we developed is based on artificial neural networks. As the second option, we constructed a model based on the characteristic formula of metal oxide semiconductor sensors. A detailed analysis of the developed algorithms...

These paper gives an account on a new power and energy measuring system, based on digital sampling, that was developed by the National Institute of Metrology (INMETRO) of Brazil. The goal of the project was to achieve the highest possible accuracy at line frequency (50 or 60 Hz), even in the presence of considerable harmonic distortions, to guarantee full traceability and to minimize the costs of obtaining a high quality reference system. In the new system the programmable A/D converters of two advanced digital multimeters (Hewlett-Packard 3458A) are used to measure the voltage and current...

This paper describes an application of boundary scan IEEE Std. 1149.1 at system level. It provides the description of the design and the implementation options of a VME boundary scan controller board prototype and the corresponding software. The prototype was designed to use the Module Test and Maintenance (MTM) bus, existing in the VME 64x backplane, to apply the IEEE 1149.1 test vectors to a single board with a specific test infrastructure also described in this contribution. The software takes the boundary scan test/programming vectors generated by an automatic test pattern generator...

While the release of IEEE Std 1241-2000 early in 2001 is a major milestone, it is not the end of the ADC standards project. Work continues on improving test methods. A common thrust is to reduce test time (and cost) while maintaining or improving the precision and accuracy of the result. Examples of methods under consideration include a more efficient means of determining offset, equivalent-time testing with imprecise pulses, and automatic sine wave fitting. This paper presents progress to date.

The example of proficiency improvement process is presented here. The main idea of that process is support for a group of enterprises. Appropriate activities allow achieving a good practice in parameter determination. The first step is to consider general rules in order to avoid any disagreement during whole process passing. Here useful are recommendations given in “new approach” of quality systems, according to the normative documents ISO. Therefore the team has a possibility to prepare, verify and finally validate theirs final inspection procedures. Training sessions help to implement...

In order to rise to the traceability of the optical machine equipped with a television camera CCD (Charge Coupled Device), the purpose of this paper is to evaluate the ability of the optical machine to provide measurements, the dispersions of which are compatible with the specified tolerances and the dispersions of the process that is measured. Referring to the principles of the Statistics Inference, the purpose is to verify that the performance of the optical machine is in conformity with what the builder have stated, both in reference to the capability of the optical machine measurement to...

A method is presented for on-line estimation of internal quantities to be used in the torque control of induction machines without speed sensor. In this paper simplified observers for rotor and stator flux linkages and for the electromechanically converted torque are discussed. These observers are obtained from induction machine dynamic equations and by using currents and voltages as input variables. Numerical results with such observers for rotor and stator flux linkages are shown, for evaluation of capacities and limitations. The quality of such observers, integrated in torque and flux...
