Design, stability analysis and uncertainty contribution of a voltage divider designed for a phase meter

Today uncertainties of a phase difference of two sinusoidal signals is commonly about 10 μrad for non coherent measurements and signal amplitudes up to several volts. Increasing voltage range of a phase meter requires special considerations. The construction of a special voltage divider intended for precise phase difference measurement is presented in this paper. The uncertainty contribution of the voltage divider was determined by repeated measurement and an Allan variance calculation. The result showed out the voltage range of the phase meter increased substantially with very small...

Analyze of the disruptive potential of two RF sources inside a neonates I.C.U.

The paper presents our approaches upon the influence of a DECT communication system (1890 MHz carrier) and of a microwave oven (2450 MHz) upon two essential parameters of a neonate mechanical ventilator. As main measuring device, we used a Spectrum Analyzer SPECTRAN HF 60105 V4, alternatively equipped with Hyper LOG 60100 directive antenna and Omni LOG 90200 isotropic antenna. Aiming to exactly identify the cause and its level of influence, we performed the measurements both in the working environment of the ICU (applying the panning approach) and comparatively, more selective, inside an...

Thermal Simulation of Biological Tissues with Magnetite Microinsertions under Microwave Energy in Support of Chemo-Hyperthermal Delivery

This paper deals with the investigations of biological tissues with magnetite insertions through computer simulation and measurements in support of chemo-hyperthermal delivery. Modeling of microwave-thermal effects in tissues, under different clinical specifications, in relation with magnetic nanoassemblies features is taken into account to correlate the thermal effect of microwave with the thermal effect in the volume under irradiation. Simulation of the tissues was performed in CST Microwave Studio in the presence and absence of insertions. It has been observed that there is a very...

Measurements in the Hyperpolarized Helium-3 for Medical Applications

Hyperpolarized helium-3 (³He) gas, is a new contrast agent for lung imaging diagnostic in functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) becoming an important technique to diagnose diseases and abnormalities in the respiratory tract. In this paper is described a new modular production method of ³He gas, hyperpolarized using the Metastability Exchange Optical Pumping Technique (MEOP). A standard set of measurements has been collected considering a prototype developed by ITEL Telecomunicazioni srl, able to produce one litre of ³He polarized gas at the pressure of 1000 mbar. A 27% of polarization...

The strategies of data recording in power quality parameters measuring instrument

In paper the analysis of the two strategies of recording the parameters from electrical power system is presented. The strategies differ in the ways of synchronization between the functional blocks of measuring system. The paper presents the time dependencies between operations carried out during the registration of data from the electrical power system, stored on USB flash drive. The successive stages of data registration are shown, starting from power system signals conversion into digital form, by data gathering and processing in the DSP and then sending it to the FPGA, transferring to...

Camera calibration procedure to improve safety in railway tunnel

The aim of this work is to propose a camera calibration procedure for transportation applications in traffic engineering. In particular, a set of camera parameters that describes the mapping between 3-D world referenced coordinates and 2-D image coordinates was identified. This paper describes the camera calibration procedure steps to obtain acquisition of a entire 3-D train profile in critical points of the network.

An Automated Test System for Spearfishing Rubbers Characterization

This paper describes the realization of an automated system for rubber characterization in spearfishing applications. These materials, once lengthened, thanks to their ability to shrink very quickly, are used as dart propellers in fishing spears. The system permits the evaluation of the rubber behavior getting its stress vs. strain curve, allowing also the study of the effects of one or more parameters change like the maximum percentage elongation and the time elapsed between the stretching and shrinking phases at which the device under test is subject.

Wind turbine vibration monitoring based on finite-element (FE) simulation

The design of wind turbines evolved over time, with the scope of becoming less expensive and producing energy more efficiently. This paper deals with a FEM model for the representation of vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) functioning for diagnostic and monitoring studies, which can provide fundamental data that can optimize the design of the monitoring system and an improvements in fault diagnosis related to vibration effects. In particular in this paper will discuss a monodimensional VAWT model, in order to reduce the computational time and, at the same, by using low computational resources...

Quantitative assessment of the EMG patterns of upper limb muscles during robotic rehabilitation

Human upper limb is involved in many daily human activities. The muscle activities during basic and daily upper-limb motions are an important area of research in rehabilitation field in order to evaluate the recovery of patients affected by congenital or acquired brain injury. Much better results in sensorimotor and cognitive processes are promised by the emerging robot-mediated therapy. Although the shoulder is the most complex joint in the body, both as to freedom range and for the musculartendon structure, not so many research devices have been proposed to study its movements and no study...

A new system to deliver vibration, measure motion and EMG reaction for forearm muscles

This study aims to measure motion and neuromuscular activity of the forearm flexor muscle in response to mechanical, vibratory stimuli. In particular, the vibration frequency that maximizes the neuromuscular response was searched. A dedicated measuring system was realised: the mechanical stimulus was provided to subject’s hand by a controlled, vibrating plate; the forearm muscles response was detected through sEMG and tri-axial accelerometric signals. Sinusoidal vibrations at different frequencies in the range 14–32 Hz were delivered. The RMS of the sEMG signal and a accelerometric transfer...
